PICK UP DATES/TRANSPORTATION
Visits prior to pick up are by appointment only for prospective buyers. Please do not bring any other animals at the time of visit or pick up due to Biosecurity.
Pick up date is to be determined at the time of your selection of and deposit on animal. This pick-up date will be documented on your receipt. Reserved animals are expected to be picked up within 5 days of this date. After this time, a boarding fee will be applied at a rate of $5/day/animal and must be paid at time of pick-up. If a reserved animal is not picked up within 10 days of agreed upon date, the prospective buyer relinquishes any deposit paid and ownership rights.
Bottle kids are to be picked up by 4 weeks of age. No exceptions will be made for bucklings or wethers-to-be. Doelings bill be on a case by case basis at the discretion of Dove Hollow.
A weekly fee of $25 will be added per kid to hold longer than 4 weeks of age due to the increased cost of supplemental feed and medications.
PICK UP DATES/TRANSPORTATION ct’d
Proper transportation for taking your new animal(s) must be provided. Transportation is extremely stressful for most goats and should be as comfortable as possible. Absolutely no open air transport. Enclosed transportation only.
Example: If you arrive to pick up your new animal in a pick up truck and plan to transport in the open bed of the truck (a crate in the open bed) we have the right to cancel sale without question. You may arrange a new transport day with appropriate transportation, but will be responsible for the daily boarding/care fee after the initial agreed upon date.
Adequate transportation would be an appropriately sized transportation crate with soft, comfortable bedding. (I have found an old bath mat to be very efficient and absorbent for most transports) Enclosed vehicles, trucks with enclosed beds, or livestock trailers are appropriate and safe. Open truck beds are not.
Delivery is available, or I will meet up to 100 miles from Dove Hollow at a rate of $2.00/mile which must be paid prior to transport. Any professional transportation services are at the expense and planning of buyer. Only Biosecurity approved third-party transporters will be accepted for pick-up of any animals. CVI is at the expense of the buyer.
KID CARE PRIOR TO PICK UP- How we are caring for your new baby
All kids will be disbudded (if not polled)**, and receive coccidia prevention (with the exception of bottle kids leaving prior to cocci prevention administration at 3 weeks old) prior to leaving Dove Hollow. Registerable doe kids and registerable kids sold as bucks will be tattooed and have either ADGA or MDGA registration application (or transfer certificate). Fees associated with registration and/or transfer are the responsibility of the buyer. Buyer is responsible for providing CD-T vaccine series after 12 weeks old (kids purchased that are older than 12 weeks will receive CDT here) and banding of wethers***.
(You can bring back purchased whether kids after 12 weeks of age for banding service, free of charge. 12 weeks to 6 months is recommended for castration)
Weaned kids will be eating Blue Seal Home Fresh medicated goat pellets, loose minerals and hay prior to leaving.
**If you would like horns to remain intact, you must notify me immediately as all horned kids will be disbudded between 2 and 14 days old. Non-refundable purchase price in full must be paid at time of request for kids to remain horned.
***Kids sold as wethers will not have registration rights and are expected to be castrated per signed sales agreement.
KID CARE AFTER PICK UP- How we recommend you take care of your new baby once home
Kids will be ready as bottle babies to approved homes with bottle experience or upon weaning. Bottle kids must be picked up by 4 weeks of age unless other arrangements are made. A bottle-feeding schedule will be discussed and can be provided in writing upon request. Buyer must agree to feed goat’s milk to bottle kid(s). Kids may be slowly transitioned to whole cow’s milk if an adequate supply of goat’s milk is not available for the duration of bottle feeding. Bucklings and wethers must be bottle fed until at least 8 weeks ; however we recommend a minimum of 12. We highly recommend that doelings be bottle fed for at least 12-16 weeks but can be weaned at 8 weeks if absolutely necessary.
Doelings should be offered grain, although may not necessarily eat it regularly or right away. We recommend Blue Seal Home Fresh Goat Feed as it is suitable for all goats and includes ammonium chloride, pre- and pro-biotics, as well as an appropriate ratio of nutrients for adequate growth. Bucklings and wethers can also be offered this grain choice. (Most wethers will do well on quality hay, minerals, and water only) We feed our bucklings and bucks high quality , properly balanced grain to prevent urinary calculi. All kids should be provided with free-choice hay, water, minerals (we recommend SweetLix Meat Maker or Purina) at all times. Alfalfa pellets are also a wonderful source of nutrition for all goats.
HEALTH GUARANTEE
You have the right to have any animal you purchase examined on our property by a veterinarian of your choice at your expense prior to pick up. If at this pre-purchase exam, the vet finds the kids to be unsound, any deposits will be refunded or may be transferred to another available animal or planned breeding.
Kids are healthy at the time they leave our property. I cannot guarantee the health of the animal once it leaves our property. Since I can no longer control the animals' environment or management once they leave my care, I assume no responsibility. We do not guarantee conformation, height, milking ease of udders or teat length at full development. We cannot guarantee milk production remaining the same for does in milk due to stress of transport and new environment, most do fine and increase production again quite easily. We do not guarantee against scurs but use reliable disbudding methods and have not had instances of scurs to date.
Finding a veterinarian with caprine experience and knowledge prior to bringing goats home is highly recommended. Not all vets have adequate knowledge in the unique health and wellness of goats.
HELPING YOUR NEW GOAT ADJUST TO THEIR NEW HOME- Stress Happens & How to Reduce It
Stress from travel, new spaces, people and other animals is normal. Goats can become extremely stressed, refusing food and water after a major transition. Recommendations to help with the adjustment process are:
- Giving your new goat its own space at first. Keep them secure and safe, possibly in their own stall. They are not familiar with their new surroundings.
- Keep them where they can smell and even see their new herd members.
- Spend time sitting near them and talking calmly and gently.
- Let them come to you, don’t chase or force.
- Despite being confident and friendly at their prior home, moving to a new place may cause them to be cautious and shy, even acting scared of you. Be patient and give them time to come around.
- Offer the food they are used to receiving (transition slowly to avoid problems)
Disclaimer: I have never had a case of CAE, CL or Johne’s within my herd. All animals over the age of six months have been tested for CAE. CL and Johne’s blood testing is not a true representation and can often lead to false positives. Culture testing of suspected lesions is the most accurate and reliable form of testing for CL and fecal
testing for Johnes.
Single goats will never be sold without proof of other goats. Goats are herd animals and will not be happy or healthy without a buddy (or lots of buddies!)
